Hi Susan,
Thanks for your info! I really like the idea of inviting players for a season, and then inviting them to audition if it goes well - it eliminates a little of the problems associated with players who don't necessarily fit the ethos of the group, and then the group is either forced to live with it, or find a way to eject them - which rarely goes nicely!
It is good to hear that this kind of structure does exist - and that it can be a long term project as well!
My partner (a conductor) and his best friend, also a conductor, plus myself, have an excellent relationship with our two local university music departments. Being such a small population makes music an even smaller community and usually it is much easier to remain 'known' after graduation. We are hoping that we can establish links with them in terms of recruitment (there is no wind ensemble at either university at the moment), venue and possible funding.
