I'll let others answer your specific question about sources, since they have that experience.

I would like to suggest a couple things, though.

When my last teacher started to struggle with his up-close sight, he started having knife troubles on the extreme tip and corners, mostly.

He started using silicone sand paper, 600 grit, to 'sand' the tip and corners.

He'd wear down the paper by rubbing it against other paper to dull it,
then just drag the tip (not push it) and slightly raise the reed so to only contact the extreme portions. And usually, he left the paper dry and the soaked reed, fairly dry.

He still had to manage to clip the tip, though using razor or knife-edge.

I don't know if he did it, but was considering getting one of those round illuminated magnifiers hobbyists like for detail work. It'd make the reed look big like a bassoon reed... [toast]
