I tried various floor supports for the bell but did not like the constraint on any body movement, and possible damping of sound. My daughter gave me a Phred which is great for holding the weight of instrument while allowing motion because it swivels vertically and horizontally and simply snaps into ring on your thumb rest. The telescoping support rod allows adjustment for any chair height. If you happen to play somewhere where the chair seat is very short then you may have to bring something to sit on that extends out closer to your knees for optimal angle and support. I use a thin piece of plastic like a thin lucite kitchen cutting board to extend the front of seating area. It slips right in folder with my music . The Phred is very lightweight, easily snapped onand off and fits in my double case.

Unfortunately none of these devices help in the case of my arthritic right hand where angle of right forefinger slides downward off the f sharp key. That why I asked about the Kooiman thumb rest recently. If weight of the instrument is the main problem the Phred solves that very well, while allowing natural motion, and ease of use. Lois Barton
