 Playing with a cold

How do you guys manage to play your instruments when you are suffering from a cold or allergies? I feel like my head is going to "explode" but my nose is not really congested. I had an ear infection week before last (along with a sinus infection). Both are gone now, but I can't seem to play my oboe. I have a lesson this evening (skipped last week's so MUST go tonight) and I don't know what to do about the "exploding head" thing! Please advise. Thank You.
