I have occasionally gotten reeds that make an airy sound. It seems to be because the blades don't *quite* match up. I find that as I "play in" the reed, the airy sound goes away, because the blades compress and begin to function as a unit.

If the reed is playable, I wouldn't worry too much about the airy sound.
