The specifics of these i cannot be sure. But when i last re-voiced my Buffet i was told that the design is similar with the old Dupins and thus had a smaller bore. From what i can tell, the low register functioned better when i had a smaller bore and the high better when i had a bigger one. But i also believe that reeds play such a significant role as well....a bigger reed tends to work better for a smaller bore and a smaller better for a bigger bore. Don't know why! One thing is for sure, from my experience, this so called stiffness usually doesn't come from the bore design, rather the reed + oboe combination. Of course some makes are inherently 'stiff', but i would rather called them dark not stiff, because they function, just that the vibrations seem to stay and there is a limit to how loud it can go, assuming you compare 2 different makes with the same reed.

Howard
