Whew!
My current teacher (a professor of double reeds and music theory at a small church-related college in Ohio) opined to me that, given my drive and determination, had I pursued the oboe when I was considerably younger than I am now, I would probably have been in contention for a slot in a major orchestra.
I have had the blessing of not being able to do that.
And I would first of all observe that at least one of the folks involved in Blair Tindall's tawdry memoir has vehemently denied her allegations (check the IDRS mailing list archives), and has been supported by others who know his character.
But I would also observe that, while the organizations change, human behavior doesn't, in my experience.
Whether you are in a major orchestra, or a community band, or a church --it doesn't make THAT MUCH difference, in terms of the kind of interpersonal transactions that occur, or in the potential for them to occur.
Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. (Someone else said that.)
Which means that it is up to each of us, as an individual, in whatever venue we find ourselves, to conduct ourselves becomingly.
So, Ken, I'm really NOT sorry that you haven't had all that many offers . . .
