 Stolen Oboe

I am the occasional oboe player. I had a very nice Oboe, but our house in Seattle was burglarized in Jan. 2010 and the Oboe was taken. Here is the next unfortunate thing. I am not sure about the oboe maker.
I think it was a “Wetzel”, but I cannot find any information about this oboe maker. I have the serial number of the oboe: 835. Perhaps someone can tell me if this makes sense. The instrument was bought around 1975 or 76 in Germany from Hieber in Munich.
Definitely, if someone offers you an oboe with that serial number please check with me or the police in Seattle.
Any help in this is greatly appreciated!

Could be Wurlitzer or Wunderlich.

My brother's flute (bought in 1971 / 72) is a Werner Wetzel.
Its serial# is in the low 1000's (10--). It is in a very beautiful case (snake skin?). The stamp on the flute is:

6 point star (star of David?)
Werner Wetzel
Berlin
6 point star (star of David?)

There is a label in the case that reads:

Werner Wetzel
Meisterwerkstätten für Holz-Blasinstrumente
Holsteinische Strasse 13
1 Berlin 31

I know this maker makes (or used to make) oboes as well because at that time I saw his catalog and I considered getting an oboe of his.
I hope this helps a bit.

Jeremy,
that definitely helps that you can confirm that Werner Wetzel made oboes. The Oboe I had had a beautiful tone, comparable with the best French models. Werner Wetzel probably did not number all his instruments sequentially irrespective of what they are, unless he made the oboe well before 1971 and then sold it in 1976.
Thanks for helping, this oboe meant a lot to me.

There is a picture of a Werner Wetzel oboe on this site:

You may be able to use an on line translator, if you want to read (understand) the comments.

I know that the flutes were of a TOP quality, I do not doubt the same about the oboes and English horns (I seem to remember someone in the internet -from Argentina- selling an English Horn a few years ago).

Best regards and sorry about your oboe.

Jeremias
