Hi folks,
Something seems to have gone wrong with my embouchure, and I can't fathom what it is.
What's started to happen is that after only about 10 minutes of playing the opening of my reed closes down to such an extent that it becomes unplayable and I have to switch to another, which in turn closes up and the cycle repeats.
I'm trying a whole raft of different reeds at the moment from beginner's thin gouge, soft scrape ones through to thick gouge medium scrape ones (all U-scrape) and it doesn't seem to matter which ones I'm using.
I'm trying like mad to be really soft mouthed to avoid this happening but then of course the note goes horribly flat (more than a semitone sometimes) and requires ramping up the air pressure and consequently the volume, not to mention the reduction in endurance.
I don't get to see my teacher for another week or so because of the holiday season and I'm going nuts trying to work out what to do.
Does anyone have any insights?
Thanks,
Kevin.
