Hey,
Just had an email from Dan Ross. He suggested measuring right after gouging. The shrinkage should be about .02mm. when the cane dries.
Here's another variable. I have my oboe reed workshop in my basement. I run and air conditioner and dehumidifier. I also watch the humidity level with a hydometer.
I am sure the shrinkage - when dry is also affected by the realtive humidity of the location you are making your reeds.
