On a very basic level I thought the Loree was a more delicate sound and the Marigaux louder and more robust with a fab lower register. The Loree was more even throughout with lovely G, A and B above the stave, but overall not for me even though I sound a million times better on it than on my own. I couldn't make it sound nasty, it only seemed to do polite sounds. The marigaux was more flexible for me, but I wasn't as keen on the middle register as I was on the rest of the instrument. Couldn't begin to comment on tuning or dark sounds etc which is what most people refer to.

Something that was more critical for me was that the third finger left hand on the Loree had a very awkward placement and I kept not covering it properly or hitting other keys. The Marigaux was absolutely fine, no problems despite having the same keys in that area. This is certainly something to keep in mind. I found with clarinets that the Buffet fingering is difficult for me, but other makes better. This can have as much of an effect as the sound on if you like an instrument. Some keys can be adjusted a little to suit, but not all of them.
