If you go to Google and enter ""extending your reed life" you will find an article by Lora Lynn Snow. This is the only item that I have found on sonic cleaning of reeds.
I am ordering Charles' sonic cleaner. I've used them in a laboratory and they do clean things. My wife's oboe instructor cleaned her failing reeds with a small pipe cleaner and that improved their playability -- so cleaning helps.
If you use two factory reeds($10 each) per month, thats $5 per week for reeds. If sonic cleaning gets an extra week of reed life per month that is $5 saved. At initial cleaner cost of $33 it would take about 6 months ($33/$5per monty) to recover initial cost. If you are using professional reed ($20 each), it takes about 3 months to recapture. This is a very conservative return estimate. It would not surprise me that reed life could be extended longer than my example.
