Hi
Does anyone know where to buy a cheap Cor Anglais in the UK if there is such a thing. Not looking for anything fancy second hand would do. I have one made my Pollard wierd make but very hard to play. long fingers required.
Thanks for all your help
Bryan

The only places that'll most likely carry used cors are double reed or woodwind specialists (eg. Howarth, Myatt, Crowthers) or keep an eye on eBay as they often get listed on there.
Conservatoire system cors can always have thumbplates added to them (making them dual system - both conservatoire and thumbplate fingerings can be used on the one instrument), so don't rule out any conservatoire system cors you may find.

I doubt there is such a thing as a "cheap cor anglais" anywhere in the world.
I did find a relatively inexpensive one once--$1200 USD. But was the result of weeks of making phone calls all over the country to every double-reed store I could track down. (This was pre-Internet.)
I would be especially careful of an inexpensive cor--it very likely could be a dog. I lucked out with mine. Like most things, you will get what you pay for.
There's always ebay, but again you have to be careful. Right now there's a Chinese cor for sale that I wouldn't touch with a ten-meter-pole.

I missed out on a plastic Linton cor (made by Malerne) on ebay a while back which was a shame. I wanted it to pair with my plastic Signet oboe so I could have a set of plastic instruments for outdoor use or playing in cold rehearsal rooms.

I just went through the process of buying an Cor. I wasn't looking for anything fancy either, but it turned out my demands were more sophisticated than I at first hoped. I ended up spending near my maximum. Sorry I couldn't tell you something more encouraging!

Same here - I was originally looking to buy a used Marigaux cor but ended up getting a brand new one.

But then I tried a cocobolo Howarth XL cor...
I was really tempted - it was a close call, but I stuck with my Marigaux.
