oboe / bassoon doubling

Does anyone have any experience of playing both oboe and bassoon? I have a couple of students who are being nagged by their school (they go to the same one) to have bassoon lessons, as there are no bassoonists in the school and plenty of oboists. I wouldn't have thought it would be *that* disastrous for their oboe playing seeing as the embouchures are so similar, but as I've never played the bassoon seriously, I'd appreciate some views... They are both very promising young oboists, so I'd hate for them to foul up their playing by trying to do both!
