 cracking up: prevention

I know this has been covered in days gone by, but I am curious about y'all's opinion when it comes to oiling the bore to prevent cracks; I remember lots of discussion (on this site) regarding temperature and humidity, and have been told by repairmen to either NEVER oil an oboe's bore or to be sure to do it twice a year.

I have NOT surfed the sites of the manufacturers, nor do I know about oil and old vs newer instruments.

Whaddaya think?
