Books I would recommend at upper high school or college level:
the art of oboe playing---by Robert Sprenkle/David Ledet
why? Good basic book especially for making oboe reeds
Publisher Summy-Birchard Evanston Illinois
Book two-Gekeler Method for Oboe by Kenneth Gekeler-
Publisher Belwin/Rockville Centre NY
why? Good technical studies but they are also musical
48 Famous Studies for Oboe/Saxophone by W. Ferling
Publisher Southern Music/San Antonio Tex
why? Very difficult technical studies and actual duets for two oboe studies including the oboe part from Beethoven Op.87 for two oboes and English Horn. the 48 studies is in two books-one book has oboe 1 parts, 2nd book includes 2nd oboe and English Horn parts.
Selected Stdies for Oboe by H Voxman,Publisher Rubank/Chicago
why? More technical studies---very technical, the least favorite technical book
Vade-Macum of the Oboist by Albert Andraud, Southern music again
Why? My most favorite because it has cuttings from many orchestra oboe solos. First 80 pages are technical studies, pages 84-89 are duets, pages 95 to 177 are orchestra cuttings, page 178 is Brandenburg Concerto Nr 2 (Bach),page 185 is Concertino by Mozart. More orchestra cuttings to end on page 200
