Thank you for commenting on my submission. When I first started playing the oboe as a freshman in High School, I almost studied with Lucarelli. If I has known that he was a Still student and understood what that really meant, I probably would have studied with him. I had heard something about Barber wanting to write a complete concerto, but I'm not familiar with either the Finzi or the Elgar pieces. I have heard the Alwyn (Alwin?) concerto and liked it very much.
One of the things that impressed me about the Girdwood recording was that the sound seemed to be so much more American, than the English school of the 60's and 70's, although her Bio didn't say anything about her studying in America or with an American trained teacher. I suppose it's just possible that I'm that far behind the times!
