Hi Loree BF51
I'm glad you enjoyed Julia Girdwood's recording of Barber's Canzonetta. She is Principal Oboe of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Bert Lucarelli has made a recording which, I think, pre-dates it. There is also a very nice version of it by my friend, Stephane Rancourt, the Principal Oboe of the Halle, who recorded it with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. This is available on the Naxos label. Were you aware that not only this piece, but Finzi's Interlude, and Elgar's Soliloquy, were all conceived as part of larger works, which each composer failed to finish for one reason or another. A great shame, as they are all extremely haunting pieces in their own right, but one can't help thinking 'What If?'. James
