Elizabeth,

The instrument is older, and it has not been played regularly for about 15 years. I have been taking all the precautions you have mentioned for the entire month that I've had it. Like warming it up under my armpit before playing it, letting the bore dry completely and swabbing it often. Also, I have only been playing it about 15 minutes every other day the entire month. Alternating between it, and my Fox. Anyway, the "crack" is coming up from one of the octave key posts just like you said. I think I'll go ahead and mark the "crack" with a pencil. Does this type of crack need a remedy? Also, can it go through to the bore? I've only heard that phrase and I don't really fully understand what it means. All I know is that it means the oboe is essentially "dead".

Thank you so much!
Scott
