- the Mozart symphonies I've encountered tend to come across to the mediocre player as "relentless, fast, never gives up"----
Very true!
The scores I've looked at are fast for a string player, but I think they could manage. Besides, there are loads more to look at first. Symph 25 was just an example.
For the oboist, stretches of nice, easy long notes are suddenly interspersed with a few tricky passages then suddenly it's all back to blending in with the violins.
The horn parts look like they're already written for Bb instruments, so no changes needed if using clarinets.
Given the shortage of amateur horn players, any ideas of what else to use in their place, besides clarinets? I once heard of cornets and flugelhorns being used with a sock shoved inside to soften the tone!
Any transposing would be done via a scanner and Finale Printmusic…in theory.
All this is just an idea, and there will be a great deal of looking before any leaping occurs! ;-)
