As I understand it, Peter Angelo was one of the primary dealers of oboe and reedmaking paraphernalia back in the '60s and '70s, based in the NYC area. I know this because when I learned to make reeds and bought my first kit back in the early '70s, I received a box full of materials from Peter Angelo. Included in that box was a shaper handle and tip. The handle has no markings on it but looks like a Bhosys handle. The tip itself has only a capital N marking near the base; however, the little envelope it came in, which I still have, had handwritten on it: "Am sending you my best tip. This style is widely used. P.A."
I am still using that tip today with good results. I have tried to compare it to a number of tip dimension charts and it comes close to, and for all I know may very well be, a Brannen N; it is also similar in dimensions to a Ruth tip from the Adam series. It is on the wider side, with around a 7.1mm tip, a fairly parallel sloped heart and a fairly narrow base. I don't know whether Angelo had his own proprietary tips, but it would be interesting to know! The cane shaped on my tip ties best at 73.5-74. I have experimented with other shapes, but haven't been persuaded to change!
Btw, the mandrel I received in that kit also has the P. Angelo inscription, but it is the only item that was marked that way.
