Some players use the low B for some altissimo notes (not sure which notes as I don't use these fingerings myself - probably alt. E and F), so the B-C linkage ruins the venting on notes that use the independant low B key, as it closes the C as well as lowers the RH2 fingerplate to almost closing.

But the B-C linkage can always be fitted if you want it - here's the one I fitted on my Signet:

English, German and Italian spec oboes usually have the low B-C link as standard, but French spec oboes (which include most oboes made for the US market) don't.

On oboes without an articulated C# key, the addition of a low B-C link makes it possible to do a low B-C# trill - play low B and trill the C# key. Without it, you can't do a low B-C trill easily as you will need to keep the C key closed and nudge the C#, unless you have a banana key fitted which will keep the low C key closed (by closing it with RH3) to free up your right hand little finger to trill the C# key.
