I forgot to put in that the tone my teacher gets that is so different from mine is on my reed and my instrument. (We play identical instruments, both pro level Rigoutats, and she makes my reeds for me still.)

Mr. Mack used to say that tone was a product of embouchure and air. He always sounded like himself on anyone's oboe and reed!

The suggestions already given are great ones.

But I think it is also important to have a concept of what you want to sound like. Listen to a lot of recordings of lots of artists and find someone you really love, then try to emulate that sound - using all the above suggestions. Your tone will evolve as you progress.
