EaubeauHorn,
There are many factors involved in the tone one gets on the oboe -- the reed, the instrument, the embouchure, the oral cavity, the support. Obviously your teacher is in the best position to inform you what could benefit your sound. I do have one caveat for you: do not get so involved in the tone you are producing that you overlook the music. When choosing a reed for a concert I do not look for which reed gives me the most beautiful tone (though of course I would always wish to have a beautiful tone, and one which is "darker" rather than "brighter"), but rather, I give priority to which reed gives me the most control so that all the musical phrases and nuances which I hear in my mind can be produced. In making a reed there is a delicate balance between scraping too much off in the effort to produce fluidity and vibrancy, and leaving enough resistance to protect the tone from becoming too bright.
