EBH,
Hello my fellow oboe comrade! Glad to know that I'm not alone in this musical odyssey.
I must confess to you that my teacher, Kathie, is being a little tougher on me because I expressed my concern that I was not progressing fast enough and I wanted to move forward at a quicker pace. For me I don't get some things unless I am pushed and I hope that this will spur me onto more effective playing. Although at the beginning of my lessons she did say that I needed the goal of the recital to help me concentrate and focus - that it would give me something to shoot for and if I did not feel comfortable or if she felt that I was not ready we would put aside the recital goal for awhile. Sorry if I gave you the wrong impression.
You have the same problem with your emboucher that frustrates me. It is a massive struggle sometimes just to get through my regular exercises or a simple melody without my cheeks feeling that they are going to explode or that I am preparing to pass out because my breathing process isn't down pat. Drives me nuts!!
Amen on the fingering dilemma, too. It's been a real challenge getting things right, but it will come in time (or so I'm told).
Best wishes to you on your "Oboe Trek". Let me know how your progressing and I'll do the same.
