In answer to your question about the Barrington, I can give input. They're iffy. That was my first oboe, purchased back in 2006 from WWBW. It was a gem and my teacher loved it. I found it easy to play and actually hit all the notes spot on. I played on it one year before selling it to one of my teacher's students. The only reason I sold it is because I wanted a pro wooden oboe. Here's the rub, three of his other students purchased Barringtons, of which, two were duds, I believe my teacher said they weren't "finished" enough and some of the pads didn't seat well. So, if you do get one, be sure and have it checked. WWBW has a 45 day return policy so use it if you have to. From my experience, it's a 50/50 gamble.
LOL on the plastic reeds.... If only there were other reed options to give us gorgeous sounds and last a looooong time.
