I tried masking tape and it worked. There is not much difference in the bottom register but the higher notes are warmer than with the other crook so I think I will look into having it recorked. There are no markings whatsoever on it so I have no idea who made it.

Do you think a clarinet/flute repairer would be able to recork it? That is the only woodwind repairer anywhere near me. He won't replace oboe pads (I asked once before and he said he didn't do them because he didn't know how to regulate the oboe) but do you think it would be worth asking him to do this?
