Last night I heard Pylkkanen's Suite for Oboe and Strings on the radio. I was quite taken with it and wondered if anyone out there has played this piece? How difficult is it? I was googling around and didn't see any obvious recordings of it. Any ideas?

From many PBS classical music radio websites, that album apparently was:
Composer: Tauno Pylkkanen
Orchestra: Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra
Track Label: YLE
Release Year: 1998
Catalog Number: 9803
YLE is the Finnish Broadcasting Company. They have a shop that purportedly sells recordings by the RSO, their CD listing is here, but searching on Pylkkanen or on 9803 turns up what is obviously Finnish for "No results matched your search."
You might email one of the various American radio stations and ask them where they got their album. Since the RSO's discography doesn't list it, I'm assuming it's out of print.
Or, of course, the next time you're in Helsinki, you could just stop by.

Dutchy, I see your research was similar to mine! Short of learning Finnish, your idea of contacting the radio station is the best one. I'll follow up next week! Interestingly enough I also looked for the oboist Aale Lindgren and came up with a lot of jazz type stuff! So much music - so little time!
