I pretty much always get my cane from Dunkel & Severson (http://www.stuart-dunkel.com/ocr/) and specify diameter as 10.5, and the results are pretty darn consistent (for a given brand of staple!). I don't know what their "tolerances" are, but I've been happy with the results.
