I've heard a rumor that Harold Wright made a recording of the complete Rose 32 Etudes. Is that true? Is is available somewhere?

I think he recorded a few of them, for music minus one or something similar. I might be mistaken, though.

Yes, Harold Wright did make a recording of the Rose 32, however it was never intended for public release. The only copy I know of exists on reel-to-reel and is in the possession of Julie Vaverka. However, she is currently on leave of absence from her positions in Boston and cannot be reached.
Perhaps another copy exists, but I do not have this knowledge. AFAIK, his music minus one recordings do not include any of the Rose 32, unless that disk has been discontinued.

I have a copy of a Harold Wright tape made from a home recording and edited by Steve Kenyon. It includes the following: Rose 32 #s 1,2,3,4,6,18,19 and 26 plus Rose 40 #s 9, 23 and 35

I don't know if it will help but might stir up some conversation. Here is a link to a rather intriguing accompaniment to the Rose etudes: http://www.jeanne-inc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=SCM-R1010-CD&Category_Code=

Hi there - I've been searching for that Harold Wright home recording of the Rose etudes for a long time... and after no luck I keep coming back to this thread & another one from 2004 where you mentioned you have a copy of it. If this message reaches you (15 years later, ha) could you please let me know if there's a chance you'd be willing to share the recording with me?

And the Rose Etude accompaniments also seem to be gone.
Anyone have any lead on those?

Paul: Philippe Cuper had a piano accompaniment composed for the 32 for his collection: International Music Diffusion in France. The accompaniments are excellent and some of these pieces would now make excellent recital pieces.

It would be great if the owner of the complete recording of the set could be persuaded to release a commercial recording of these etudes.

I want to apologize in advance for any offense people may take to this purely curiosity question.
I fear answers like, "Harold Wright made the sound, not his mouthpiece!" or..
..."where do you come off comparing a Vandoren manufactured mouthpiece to a Chedeville!" etc.
That said:
What Vandoren mouthpiece is most like what Wright played. Is it the 5RV, or maybe the 5RV Lyre?
I'm very happy with my Vandoren M15. Switching to Wright's very setup, let alone the closest Vandoren to it won't make me him anymore than watching action movies will make me Schwarzenegger.
TIA.

I'm glad to see that A Brady shared a link to one of the Rose etudes on the SoundCloud account of "Lucia McClarinet." Her treasure trove includes 5 Rose recordings plus a bunch of other Harold Wright gems, like his 1969 National Clarinet Clinic recital. Many, many hours can be spent here listening to Wright, McLane, Yona Ettlinger, and the Boston Symphony Chamber Players.

Thank you so much for making it easy to find the main page of this resource! The only problem, with all the recordings and lectures, is that there may not be any further need for the Clarinet Bulletin Board.

The Vandoren most similar to Wright’s mouthpiece is most likely the M15. So, there you go!
