 Break-in and Pitch
Author: Slowoldman

My old R13 (from 1968) was consistently sharp. My new instrument (also Buffet) is playing slightly flat. I've been playing the new one for about 5 weeks, progressively increasing the playing time (currently 45 minutes a day).

Does the pitch/tuning usually change as a clarinet "breaks in"? If I can expect change, I don't want to start messing with barrels and mouthpieces right away, of course.

Thanks for any info on this.

Nope.
You may experiment with shorter mpc, eg, Ridenour Homage, any current Selmer model, D'Addario Reserve (Evolution), Pomarico, Jody Espina's Chedeville...

In my own experience (as well as my friend's who has the same clarinet), my new R13 Prestige did changed slightly in its tuning.

However, since I came to my current clarinet, that I bought new, from another instrument to which I had adjusted, I cannot say what percentage of the change in tuning came from the new instrument "break in" and how much came from my adjustment in breathing and ambuchure to the new instrument.
