Just though I'd mention this, in addition to the Albert system G clarinets there are also some Boehm system G clarinets being made. Folkmusic123.com actually has a plastic one for 800 EUR which is a bit over $900:

The one use I've found for my G clarinet (before I sold it a while back) was to play Chalumeau parts. It was also fun to improvise on, however my instrument was a "half Boehm" system and because of the simplified keywork some intervals were not possible. Fun to mess around with but not really something most clarinetists would find useful.
