 Carnival des animeaux
Author: klarisa

Hi,

I have been asked to play the clarinet in Carnival des animeaux. The Finale is written for Clarinet in C. I'm thinking of transposing the part for clarinet in Bb. Would that be oké? Like to know what options other clarinet players used: transpose, borrow, loan or even buy a Clarinet somewhere. (buying is surely not an option i am considering here...)

regards. Johan

IMSLP has a transposed part. There's no shame in using it.

In general it will be just fine playing on a transposed part.

The conductor may not appreciate that C clarinets have a brighter sound. The composer may have had this in mind, but it may not agree with current performance practice. So, I usually start on the C instrument, but switch if the brightness turns out to be a problem.

Oké,

Thanks, i found the transposed part on ismlp. I will try that one. Saves me the work of transposing it myself... :)

The last few times I've done this piece, it has been theatrical, with the cuckoos offstage (as they are meant to be) and marching on to the stage during the last movement. Some of the theatres were dark and craggy, and it would not have been a good idea to do the last mvt on C clarinet (even though I own one and like it a lot).
