I just can't seem to stop picking up clarinets..
I re-pad / re-cork them with the intent of selling them on but I can't seem to let go..

Multiple clarinet ownership, especially non-wood instruments, seem perfectly logical and fun to me. Only downside is that wooden clarinets might suffer if not played regularly ... I rotate my wooden Yamaha, Selmers Signets and old Buffet, and keep a keen eye on them. The others, not so much ... they do well if left unattended.
My lone Libertas has had only lost one bumper cork and one pad in the 2 1/2 years that I've played the snot out of it ... they hold up well, and perform better than almost anything else ... You can pass these on to your great-grand kids.
I really need to stock up on Ridenour's entire complement of clarinets ... before Tom decides to retire and move to a secure bunker in an undisclosed location, awaiting the Zombie apocalypse. (I am kidding!).

I sold my Leblanc LL full Boehm a while back to a former colleague, but since then I bought another couple of older Selmers - a BT and a CT which I lend to players if they need an instrument to play in the meantime while I'm doing work on theirs.

While we have so many addicts in the same room, does anyone have a plastic A clarinet they would be interested in selling?
Or the lower joint only of a Buffet R13 A clarinet, or any Buffet A clarinet lower joint that fits and tunes on an R13 A clarinet upper joint. Bell not required.
It is for cold-weather playing.

PS In case you are wondering why lower joint only, I bought an old R13 A cl for its lower joint to send to Steven Fox to convert to a basset A clarinet lower joint.

The only plastic A clarinets I know of are the PVC bodied B&H Edgware A clarinets - they were machined in the same manner as their wooden clarinets (with inset ebonite tonehole chimneys) and would be ideal.
Other than that there are ebonite bodied B&H Imperial 926 and 1010 A clarinets if you want a decent enough A clarinet that's not wood and not Chinese.

Thanks for the suggestions, Chris. Are the B&H clarinets you mention large-bore, or might they play in tune with French-bore mouthpieces (eg. Vandoren)?

You can use any stock Vandoren or French spec mouthpieces on any other B&H clarinet besides the 1010. That's not to say you can't use a French mouthpiece on a 1010 - if it works well and tunes well, then that's all that matters. I used a Vandoren A1 crystal with my brief encounter with a 1010 with no problem, but they are large bore mouthpieces.
I have seen one Vandoren mouthpiece made specially for 1010s - I think it was a B40 or a B44 and it had 1010 stamped above the tenon. As far as I could tell it was original, either that or it had been rebored and stamped nicely. I know a player who's had a German Vandoren bored up to 1010 spec.

I have an alto sax, Yamaha YAS-23 as well as a YAS-21. Also a tenor King 615.
I figured clarinets were cheaper to collect than saxes (although I am bidding on a interesting tenor at the moment..)

Simon - I've only seen one B&H Edgware A in plastic and overhauled a Bb several years ago which would've made an excellent counterpart.
It was at a music shop I used to work at and had been put out on rental to some unsuspecting beginner as the shop staff were clueless it was in A (a clarinet's a clarinet, right? No.). It promptly came back and was changed for a Bb. There were plenty of other similar embarrassing episodes.
While the Regent, Edgware, Emperor and Imperial 926 all share the same bore, tonehole layout and bell shapes so are in essence the same basic instruments (body materials and keywork plating aside), I thought it a bit of a let down when a plastic bodied Emperor came to me for a service - it was just a plastic Regent (with all moulded plastic joints) but with silver plated keys and Emperor socket rings. As the Emperor is the next model above the Edgware, it would be more in keeping if it was machined from plastic instead of having the same moulded joints as a Regent.
