 Meter recorder

I am getting better at counting 16th notes (and working on some 32nd notes), but I'm still struggling equal and consistent notes. I always practice with a metronome, I count "1-e-and-a," I clap, I talk through, etc. I just don't know if i'm getting it.

Unfortunately, where I live there are no teachers within 32 miles, and I can't find other musicians who want to practice together (one of the community band leaders even sent a request to other members. None showed any interest).

Does any know if there is an android app that can record meter if I enter signature? I am one of those people who needs to deconstruct things to see how they go together -- I was a programmer).

Hopefully, I'm making sense.

Any advice would be most helpful.

Can you describe just what you want the app to do?

I want the app to record the frequency at which I'm playing -- how many beats per minute. The flip side of a metronome.

For example, if the time signature is 3/4 and the metronome is set for 60 beats for minute, then the app would calculate the average number of beats. By knowing the time signature, I would that that 60 beats per note would be = to quarter notes, 120 eighth would be = eight notes, and 480 beats per minute would be sixteenth notes.

Now I'm lost. Do you want it to count how many beats you've played so you can calculate if you skipped any?

Most modern electronic metronomes - I think including phone apps - can be set to emphasize the first beat of each measure with a different sound, defining the number of beats and acting as a check that you're not playing ahead or behind (by skipping or adding beats).

Do you need more than that?

The tempo doesn't change depending on the note values. I think you may be off on a bit of a tangent if you are wanting to learn to read rhythms better, or at least mixing up some terms.

Karl, I think your suggestion of using a different sound would help me immensely. I'm using TonalEnergy Tuner. I will see if I can accent the first beat on this app.

Nellsonic, you are correct. I am most likely muddying the water. I was essentially looking for an app that would allow me to record what I'm playing and identify it as quarter, eighth, sixteenth, etc. I was looking for a "crutch" to help me make sure that I'm on beat, playing fast (or slow) enough, and consistently.

Thank you both. Sorry for all the confusion. But out of this confusion, you have helped me greatly.

If I understand what you want to do:

Download Audacity (an audio editing program) to your computer; use it to record your playing your rapidly tongued notes, and then look at the waveform to see if the spacing of those notes is consistent.

A Google search for 'audacity' will take you to sites from which you can download the program.
