I have a student who is relocating (military) to Tampa, Florida. She would like to attend a HS that has a well rounded band program (concert and marching). If she had to, she would pick the school that did more concert work. Any suggestions?

I would have her look at Plant High School, I've heard a few good things about their band program, and it is also number 17 in the state of Florida for their overall high school rating. I also know that Plant usually sends a good amount of students to All-State every year. (I would recommend this school as a lot of schools in Tampa are what some would refer to as "rough.")
I believe that Sickles High School has a good Band program as well.
Now there is a performing arts school in Tampa called Howard W. Blake High School, but I would tell your student to stay away from it. I know kids from All-State that do not enjoy it there as many of them have had their instruments vandalized or stolen, the facilities are not the greatest, and many students have been bullied there.
I wish your student the best in her travels, and hope that she finds a band program and high school that she likes.

If you would like to give me a email or call, I am a USF student and know of some great opportunities for your student.

I would recommend the following schools right off the bat:
Durant
J. B. Plant
Gaither
Tarpon Springs
Leto
The greater Tampa area is a very good place to study music in high school, you have many good choices. I teach privately in Tampa, as does several professors and professionals in the area. We have two professors at USF, one at UTampa, and several professionals in the community.
Welcome to Tampa, you're in a great place!
