I typically keep the reed centered and tip of reed at or SLIGHTLY beyond tip of mouthpiece (as Paul suggested above). At that point to adjust for strength or weakness of reeds, I mess with ligatures. I find that rovner leather ligs take a slightly thin Reed and keep t from being harsh, and a metal to Reed contact or Silverstein will bring out the highs making a dull Reed sound brighter. Just depends on how it's sounding and how I WANT to sound at the time.
I don't care for moving the Reed around the mouthpiece though. I like the consistency of centered, tip at or slightly above.
