Hello all,
Recently decided to upgrade from my B45 to something more easy blowing, and ordered a Clark Fobes Cicero 13. The decision to choose that particular model was largely encouraged by the great deal available at the Woodwind/Brasswind on refurbished mouthpieces, but also came close to the tip opening and facing of the San Francisco CF+ I had my eye on. The Cicero is a huge step up from my B45, though my curiosity continues to wonder how the San Fran CF+ model with a slightly smaller tip opening and longer facing compares. I may just order one to give it a try, but I'm curious about the opinions of those on the board. Thanks

I've never tried the Cicero or the CF+, but I play on a CWF and I love it. It's very free-blowing and reed-friendly (I've had the best success with Peter Leuthner #4s), with lots of color and upper overtones in the sound. Not "bright" in the negative sense by any means, just colorful. It projects nicely over an ensemble.
The CWF has a small tip opening and a longer facing.
I've been to Clark Fobes's house where he makes all of the mouthpieces; his process of adjusting and test-playing each mouthpiece is really interesting.

I own the CF+ and have tried a couple Cicero models. I thought the Cicero had a smaller, more compact, but brighter sound.
I ended up returning the Ciceros I had on trial because I felt like I could not project through an orchestra as easily as the CF+, which for me has a slightly bigger, slightly more free-blowing, and slightly darker sound. Also I tended to squeak a lot more on the Cicero models for some reason; perhaps it is the shorter facing along with the baffle shape.
If you decide to try the CF+, just make sure there is a return policy in case you do not like it as much as your Cicero.

It is tough to say, as each person is different. I have played a CF+ for many years. Recently I tried a Cicero model that a friend had and was very impressed with what a really nice mouthpiece it is. They are slightly different, but are both excellent.
