Now Tony's post had something to do with communication and performance - an essential part of making "music" in my book.
How does your post deal with such issues? Perhaps I am dense, but I don't see any correlation.
Pirsig's "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" wasn't about Zen or motorcycle maintenance, but it was. Discussion about the different realities and the approaches to solutions in _that_ book would be apropos in this BBoard.

It has nothing to do with any other post or posters. It is a short story I wrote - among others I've published, hopefully a good one. I was/am not trying to make a point, relate it or compare it to other posts, or criticize anyone.
For those who can dig it out it transmits the message that all is often not as it appears. And that can certainly be applied to making music, can't it? In that regard it is at least as applicable as the other long rambling post you mentioned. And it certainly is applicable to the peculiar characteristics of this board.
If management feels that it should be removed I'll delete it, no hard feelings . . . . well, come to think of it, perhaps just a few.
I'm a little surprised that on a forum that presumably deals with an art form there is so little toleration for variance of opinion and criticisms except in matters of the mechanical aspect of clarinets and their accessories. But I guess I knew that when I signed on.
Responding to your post has just this minute made me realize that there is so much hostility and paranoia here that they outweigh any benefit. I'm sorry for the nice folks. I probably shouldn't be wasting my time here.

As somebody who has made comments on barrels on this forum and who works for a clarinet builder, I am in no position to criticise endless discussions on barrels. Nevertheless, it would be nice to have discussions on interpretation; on musical expression. They do occasionally come up, but as far as I'm concerned, too seldom. I will personally try to get the ball rolling; will never talk about barrels again-will never look at another barrel or even use one!
