 ID Martin Frost's Clarinet
Author: RLarm
Date:   2014-05-07 05:05

I know that Martin Frost is a Buffet endorser. But on p.44 of the April 2014 issue of Gramophone he (or someone who looks a lot like Martin) is shown holding a clarinet that definitely does not look like anything that Buffet currently has out on the market. Can someone ID this clarinet? (It is an ad for the International Chamber Music Festival at Stavanger at which Martin is co-artistic director.)

I saw this around Facebook. .

Martin payed a visit to Schille's shop and took a few photos with the clarinets. However, he is STILL with Buffet Crampon gettin' those free Toscas. Who wouldn't?

Poor guy can't even toot on another brand of clarinet? How's he supposed to know how "his" brand compares? Shades of old TV ads with Coke deliveryman sneaking a Pepsi.

Dear Tyler,
Thanks for identifying the make of clarinet. It's difficult nowadays to keep up with all the custom clarinet manufacturers that seem to be sprouting up all over the place. ( I'm sorry I didn't reply earlier but my work schedule makes it difficult to post everyday. Some people have a lot of free time on their hands. I'm not one of them!) ALOHA.
P.S.: I wonder how Buffet feels about Martin posing with a different brand of clarinet, especially since he is one of their highest profile endorsers.

I thought Frost was a full on "Schille performing artist" now, but then didn't realise he had any affiliation with Buffet previously, so am most likely completely wrong. A friend is performing some modern piece with him in a week or so, I'll ask her what he is playing on...
