 Clarinet, trumpet, sax trio?
Author: Fantasia Buffet R13

Does anybody know of a trio composed for clarinet, trumpet, and (alto, tener, or soprano) saxophone?

Any suggestions or help you have to offer would be most appreciated.

Thank you.

8notes.com has all sorts of odd instrument combination duets, trios, quartets, etc in multiple music styles. If you pay the $20 subscription fee they will transpose for whatever instrument you need. It usually takes about a week. You can check out their inventory and see if they have what you want prior to commiting to the subscription. Since trumpet and are clarinet are both Bb instruments, you might be able to start with a clarinet trio and just transpose for sax. The hard part is going to be balance.

Back when I was in High School I did a duet with a trumpet, and I played alto sax. I simply translated the part to sax. So you could select a trumpet trio and translate on part to saxophone.

The balance between sax and trumpet wouldn't be hard, but with a clarinet it would be a bit harder to balance but they just have to use their ears.

Unusual combination but you would think there is something out there for it. I can't find anything, though. The best I could come up with is from the Luyben Music list for clarinet and saxophone:

BEETHOVEN/Diaz Trio Op.87 (2cl/a sax)

A good trumpet player might be able to play one of the clarinet parts. I doubt the range in a Beethoven transcription would be too large.

Have you tried calling Eble Music and asking one of their specialists?

Best regards,
jnk

"Triade" by M. Boucard is for oboe, clarinet, and alto sax. If either the clarinetist or trumpeter has a C instrument, or can transpose, that would work.
