Lit: Any good transcriptions for clarinet?
Author: DesireeGattis

(Looking for transcriptions that I can purchase for the clarinet)

What are some good clarinet transcriptions? I know of the Tartini Concertino, Mozart’s 4 Church Sonatas, the Osborne Rhapsody, Vaughan William’s Six Studies…English Folk Song. Any others that are worth while teaching/performing pieces? Any suggestions are welcome!

The first piece that comes to mind is the clarinet transcription of Aaron Copland's violin sonata (authorized by Copland late in his life). I think it's a wonderful addition to the clarinet repertoire. Another personal favorite is Paul Ben Haim's Three Songs Without Words.

There's also the Handel Clarinet Concerto, a creation of Sir John Barbirolli, but I'm not very familiar with it.

Woodwind.org (this site) has a big list of clarinet/piano music at http://test.woodwind.org/Databases/Composers/Performers/000011.html, but it includes original music as well as transcriptions.

Gary van Cott has LOTS of stuff http://www.vcisinc.com/clarinetmusicpiano.htm. Search on the string "transcri" to find transcribed, transcription, etc.

There are 241 free downloads at http://www.free-scores.com/partitions_libres.php?searchexact=Clarinette,+Piano&CATEGORIE=100&ordrepar=clicks.

And a bunch more at http://imslp.org/wiki/Category:For_clarinet,_piano.

And if you can transpose even a little bit, the world is at your fingertips. There's no better way to learn than going to a site such as http://levysheetmusic.mse.jhu.edu/otcgi/llscgi60?db=3&sortorder=asc&sortby=LSM:Item&query=067®ION=LSMBox and reading wonderful music, familiar and unfamiliar.

Have fun.
