Hi! I'm living in Ottawa all summer with the Band of the Ceremonial Guard and even though they've given me a good clarinet to play, my beloved R13 Prestige needs some work. Being totally unfamiliar with the city, I don't know any repair places or teachers here. Can someone recommend somewhere? I bought my clarinet from John Weir, so I could send it to him in Toronto but I'd really, really rather not put it in the mail if I don't have to.
And while I'm at it, are there any teachers here that I absolutely must get lessons with? I've heard good things about Kimball Sykes; who else is around?
Thanks!

Hello,
If you are in Ottawa, by all means try to take some lessons with Kimball as he is a world class player and terrific teacher. In Toronto you can also see if Joaquin Valdepenas is available as he is a superb player and teacher as well (I believe he is teaching and playing in Aspen during the summer though.
For repairs in Ottawa try Chris Millard. Chris worked with me in Vancouver for several years and is an excellent repair technician. He is also very good at tuning and voicing and I have no hesitation in recommending his work.
Have fun in our nations capital!
