Hello all this is my first post here. I have a question about a mouth piece. I just bought a used Selmer series 10G Bb clarinet off ebay. It was checked out to be in great shape and has no issues. It came with an old 5rv Lyre MP that I really like the sound so I bought a new one to replace the old one. My question is: is that MP suitable for basically a beginner? I have just a little trouble with squeeks on the higher notes. I'm using a Legere 2.25 reed which I will not part with.

5RV Lyre is an excellent mouthpiece for anyone. Just make sure the reed seals well against the facing as leaks along the side rails can cause squeaks. Test it to see if it's airtight by doing the following:
Wet the underside of the reed before playing to ensure an airtight seal, then close the tenon off with one of your thumbs and suck the air out from the tip. The reed should remain closed against the facing and you'll hear it hiss as air gets in. The reed should then pop open after several seconds. If you can't make a vacuum or it pops open almost immediately, there's a leak somewhere, so reposition the reed and see if that helps.

Vandoren's 5RV lyre is one of my favorites, and I'm at your play level and reed strength. You might also want to try an M15 if you get a chance.
