 Hello,

I was just wondering if there was such a product to restore the finish on a Buffet Clarinet. Mine is looking dull, after some repair work was done on it.

Thanks,

The finish on most Buffets is an alcohol based dye (very deep purple) and this does wear off to show the natural beauty of the wood underneath.

Buffets also have a scratched finish rather than a bright, shiny polished finish - so unless you remove all the pillars and other metal fittings so you can paper up the joints and then buff them up to a bright shine, then you won't be able to achieve a bright shiny finish as they never had that to begin with.

You can use a dab of bore oil on a cloth to polish the wood with, but that will soon dull down through handling.

I've had better luck with tung oil . Don't build up a layer, just buff off with a soft cloth anything that doesn't soak in . Gets harder and easier to polish up after a couple days. Seems to last longer than oils that never harden to any degree.
