Hello,

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this composer. It seems he wrote a clarinet quintet so I thought someone here might know something. My interest is more in his Viola Concert Piece but I would like to know anything anyone might know. I have found the basic bio of him on a few pages but has anyone played any of his music?

Thanks!

(both pieces seem to be on IMSLP, but alas, no one replied to me at all on their forum so I thought to try here as well.)

As well, the quintet seems to actually be a manuscript.

Thomas Täglichsbeck, * 31. Dez. 1799 in Ansbach, † 5. Okt. 1867 in Baden-Baden (both district centers here in southern Germany).

From early childhood T. was trained as a violinist. He first worked in orchestras
in Munich and subsequently became "Hofkapellmeister" (director of music) to the Hohenzollern, one of the more important german lines of sovereigns. Reportedly, he got their orchestra pretty much up to speed, and was also considered one of the foremost violin virtuosi in Germany.

As to his compositions, contemporaries considered them technically sound and pleasant but not too exciting. His first symphony was premiered in Paris (which apparently meant something at the time), but Hector Berlioz didn't like it: ".. c'est de la musique scolastique, mais rien de plus".

So thanks for the pointer to the quintet -- will have a look at it and see myself.

Regards
(tacet)

Thanks for the response. I came across a good bit of that. I came across this morning an article about Berlioz saying later that his music "is %100 better on rehearing". I am still hoping someone with experience playing his music will come about. Perhaps I will just play it and find out myself and make a research project out of it for my jury.

Thanks
