Piece for viola, clarinet, and cello?
Author: Ed Lowry

I'm looking for a piece for viola, clarinet, and cello to work up for a chamber music workshop in Sacramento. I'm looking for a piece that our fellow workshop members will enjoy listening to, and which provides a moderate, although not insurmountable (!) challenge for an ad-hoc, advanced, but by no means professional-quality group.

Don't exclude the idea of "violin, viola, cello" or "oboe, viola and cello" works. Many violin and oboe parts can be transposed very comfortably to clarinet. This opens up a lot of baroque music of you have the time to rewrite the parts.
Flute is another option, but flute parts tend to often be very technically demanding.

Max Bruch 8 Pieces are for (vn, vc, pf) or (cl, va, pf), but they work well with (cl, vc, pf).

These are wonderful, emotional pieces, but only one is in a major key.

Karel Husa - Evocations of Slovakia (1951)

Difficult for all three players, and the ensemble requires work as well, but it is definitely worth the effort.
