Hi All,
I'm looking into doing a recital of film composer's music for the clarinet (I'm looking for composers who are primarily known for their film scores, if possible). I'm not looking for arrangements of movie themes, but "legit" chamber music. On the program now are the Sonata by Nino Rota, the Sonatina by Miklos Rozsa and Morricone's Ipotesi for Clarinet and Piano. I would prefer a piece for unaccompanied clarinet that is no more than ten minutes long. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Liam

Just perusing the database on this website I ran across an unaccompanied piece by Malcolm Arnold called "Fantasie." (Op. 87)
http://test.woodwind.org/Databases/Composers/Titles/000365.html
Although most of us probably don't immediately think of Arnold as a film composer, he wrote scores to some 62 films, including "Bridge on the River Kwai" (one of my favorite films), for which he won an Academy Award.
If that doesn't qualify you as a film composer, I don't know what does.

That's a good one, but it requires accompaniment, and I believe the OP is looking for something unaccompanied.
On the subject of accompanied clarinet works by film composers, though . . .
John Williams also wrote a clarinet concerto, but it's not published (although BBoarder David Blumberg sells a recording of it on iTunes [featuring Michele Zukovsky, for whom it was written]).
Bernard Herrmann (Alfred Hitchcock's composer) apparently wrote a clarinet quintet you can read about here:

By the way, another film composer who wrote an unaccompanied work for clarinet is Sir Richard Rodney Bennett. He wrote an unaccompanied Sonatina for clarinet.

Oh, sorry. I was running right out the door and didn't have time to completely read it or give a good answer.

Mrn,
Arnold made his name as a composer writing film scores after the first performance of his concert overture 'Beckus the Dandipratt' whilst still principal trumpet with the LPO. Of course the fact that I'm English means I know these things.
Back to the topic,
Have a look for the Songs for Soprano and Clarinet by Georges Auric. He was a Le Six member and made his money writing film scores mainly in England.
