Is this a Buffet or not a Buffet?

HI,
An older wood clarinet with no logos or any branding. Does have SN on both upper and lower joints - 9348. It has been suggested that this is
an older Buffet. Very old case, where the barrel is to be stored connected to the upper joint.

Any ideas anyone?

If it is, it was made in 1931 according to a serial number list on this site. Do you think it could be that old?

I think any Buffet would have the company logo, so it's probably something else.

Buffet keys have distinctive details in their shapes that have changed over time. I described the older versions (such as were used in 1931) here: http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i=11130&t=11130.

If you can post some photos, I can probably tell you what you have. For me, the profile of the left little finger keys is the giveaway, but there are numerous others.

thank you Ken, This information is terrific. It seems that I may have an early Buffet: The C#/G# left little finger has a flat spring as you describe; there is no adjusting screw on the throat Ab; the left little finger low E and F are mounted on a single axle, like the top two trill keys;there is an 'arch' on the extended tip of these keys; the thumb rest has the screw 'ears' mortised into the wood.

So thanks again so much for your expertise. Now I have to get in playing condition.

There was a Maltese company (based in Valletta) that made Buffet copies, though I can't remember their name.

I'd recommend you give us some pics to look at rather than quickly assuming it's a Buffet. There are alot of little instricacies that the experts here can hone in on

I have a 1925 Buffet sitting on the shelf and i'll compare it to pics for you .. except it has Buffet on all parts .. original case, barrel connected to UJ and bell to LJ
