okay.... i used this forum a couple years ago and im back, more experianced and better off for the most part.
I have played clarinet for about 6 years in concert and marching band and i learned to play tenor sax 3 years ago, and didnt play it again until 6 months ago, when i started playing it daily for our school's jazz band.
now my deliema startes- my jazz director was really enthusiastic about me playing in the jazz band because the pervious year he had an amazing clarinet player who also could play the tenor sax amazing too. this particular person was a very close friend of mine. Anyway this director wants me to play jazz clarinet, like my friend, but i spent a solid two months learning the music and trying really hard to make it work with the rest of the band. For some reason it just didnt click for me. No matter how hard i tried i couldnt make it sound right (not jazzy, maybe). therefore, i didnt like playing jazz clarinet. But the problem isnt jazz, because i do fine on the tenor sax for jazz
does anyone have any, ANY advise on how i could work up my jazz clarinet skills? if it helps any, the particular song my director wants to play is moonlight serenade (which is basically all clarinet solo), but there are several other songs too...my email is elanah.hanale@gmail.com
